About this deal

Partridge endures so well on screen, of course, because Steve Coogan is such a brilliant comedy performer. DAVID BADDIEL'The funniest series of books ever written in the English language' RICHARD OSMAN'With a genuine belly laugh to be found on almost every page, it only cements Partridge's status as the world's greatest comedy character' EMPIRE'Partridge. But on the page – and in scripts for all his output since 2013’s Mid Morning Matters – it’s the comedy writing team of Neil and Rob Gibbons who’ve been responsible for the bulk of the material produced.

Quote from: Milo on October 21, 2023, 04:36:13 PMThe number of times he's said "gotta try stand-up" makes me think it could be something to do with that. Quote from: Proactive on October 21, 2023, 01:37:58 PMIn the real world I think the obvious place for Alan would be a GB News type outlet.PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio. Since it’s impossible to read Partridge without hearing his voice in your head, this is a book best enjoyed in audio where, courtesy of Coogan, his pompous pronouncements and warped self-analysis take flight.

I get the same vibe from those jokes as I do stuff like describing the female drummer in KMKY ("close your eyes, could have been a man"),just showing Alan as having old-fashiond attitudes.I must say, I never knew how troubled the production of Alpha Papa was until much longer after I'd seen it. Another Oasthouse coming next year too, I can listen to Partridge now pretty much all day and never get bored! Once the star and lead presenter of Mid Morning Matters on North Norfolk Digital and This Time on BBC1, he is now not those things, but is perfectly happy and comfortably off.

Still, if you enjoyed the first two books, to say nothing of the early years, there's a certain verisimilitude in seeing him rant with less focus than before. Last month, Audible announced it had commissioned a third series of From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast. In Big Beacon , Norwich's favourite son and best broadcaster, Alan Partridge, triumphs against the odds.He also spends some time in Qatar with disgraced former Sky TV football pundit Richard “Hairy Hands” Keys. I can see room for fun (and KMKY-style parodies of modern comedians) if Alan was to enter one of those newcomer stand-up competitions, with the process of the course probably being more interesting/amusing than his act. Anyway, I'm sure like the first two books, I'm going to end up listening to it dozens of times, it's still really good overall.
