If you're uncertain about compatibility, it's a good idea to reach out to Dell's support or consult the manufacturer's documentation for your laptop to confirm compatibility with the Dell D6000 docking station. There aren't any adapters in the box, so if both of your monitors use HDMI or if you're using an older monitor with DVI or VGA ports (in which case, I'm sorry, I feel your pain), you'll need to go out and get an adapter. Dell's new dock has an interesting innovation to make it compatible with both USB Type-C and old-fashioned USB 3.

And while the built-in adapter's implementation is clumsy, it's the cleverest solution out there that will move you from legacy ports to the newest standard. and USB Type-C in the future, the D6000 isn't just your best option; at the moment, it's your only option. To be fair, this unit doesn't get as warm as the Dell unit does (neither get hot, but the Dell does get a bit warm to the touch).

The Dell D6000 has issues when the machine is powered on from a cold start; it will not connect until you unplug it and plug it back in. However, Dell provides a 1-year standard warranty which will cover the Dock and cable (if purchased as a tied laptop accessory, the Dell Universal Dock D6000 will share the system warranty).

Dell Universal Dock D6000 supports up to 3 displays when connected to your PC using the Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C cable and up to 2 displays using the USB 3.Stay productive by mounting your dock behind your monitor or under your desk with the optional, secure VESA mount, that offers the complete flexibility with the built-in one-meter cable.

the additional functionality is worth it, especially if you plan on upgrading to 4K monitors sooner rather than later. When you connect the laptop to the docking station, you can gain access to all your peripherals such as the mouse, keyboard, stereo speakers, external hard drive, and large-screen displays without having to plug each one into the laptop. Dell D6000 Universal Docking Station with USB-C Multifunction DisplayPort 180W Dell WD19S180W Docking Station, HDM2. Once the PC has booted you can disconnect power and the PC will work fine while powering from USB Type-C.

Of the laptops I tested, the one with the biggest issues was the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro, which didn't consistently charge over the 65W adapter (possibly due to the demands of its discrete graphics, though the XPS 15 and its GPU worked fine) and didn't output to any of the monitors over USB Type-C. Refer to the Dell knowledge-base article How to configure Intel PROSet to disable Intel Wireless when PC is connected Via Ethernet network connection for Intel Cards. Given that this cable is going to be plugged and unplugged possibly hundreds of times, this is a serious reason to consider the Plugable unit which has a fully detachable cable.

x USB-C ¦ 1 x display / video - HDMI ¦ 2 x display / video - DisplayPort ¦ 1 x USB host ¦ 3 x SuperSpeed USB 3. Please do not use the `Remember me` option if using a computer with public access or that is used by more than one person.Dell promises that the D6000 can output at three 4K displays over USB-C, with one running at 30 Hz (or a single 5K monitor, though we weren't able to test that), or two monitors over USB 3. Plus, with features like PXE Boot, Wake-on-LAN and more, it’s easier than ever to stay productive while managing your dock.
